Happy 4th Birthday, Isaac!

Our not-so-little-anymore boy turned 4 years old this past weekend. Wow - time flies! As things change so fast, I am going to use this milestone as an opportunity to briefly highlight some things that Isaac is doing at this point in his life. He is so much fun and truely does amaze us everyday - his favorite toy is still a car...he always has one close by and can keep him entertained for a loooooong time. And he loves to be outside...either working with his lawnmower or wheelbarrow, riding his bike, or just wandering around in the woods. He is such a good helper. We are constantly impressed with his memory - randomly bringing up things that have happended long ago - and can't believe how much he is learning. He loves pre-school, his friends there, and his teacher, Ms. Taryn. He can write his name (with the "s" going the right way) and has even started to read simple books. However, his answer to the question, "what did you do in pre-school today?" is always the same: "played with my friends" or "I don't know". And...he is officially still in the "why" stage. He always wants to read 2 books before bedtime and sleeps with his "new-b" (light blue bear blanket). Frequently if he is tired in the evening, he will put on his jammies himself and say, "I'm tired, I'm ready to go to bed." He has even started brushing his teeth by himself. It's so fun to watch him become more independent - he is still hesitant in new situations, but now ventures off by himself and is more daring at the playground (which may seem like a small thing, but something he NEVER used to do). He gets super grumpy if he's hungry and is still a very sensitive little guy - he likes routine (for instance, he has a yogurt and his vitamin 1st thing in the morning...every morning), and always wants to know what the plan is so he knows what to expect. He always wants to wave good-bye, whether someone is leaving the house or when he is getting dropped off at pre-school. It's really sweet. And...he loves his little sister. He likes to make her giggle...and likes to drive her crazy all at the same time. He seems to become instantly interested in whatever toy she is playing with, and one of these days, I won't be a bit surprised if she fights back...and wins.

Isaac has been looking forward to his birthday this year for months...literally. Nana has been here for a week or so, and it was fun to have her here to join in on the celebration. We have been so fortunate to have the gorgeous weather that we've been having lately, and this weekend was no exception. Isaac got to choose what he wanted to do for his "special day" and he wanted to go to one of his favorite parks and then we went out to dinner. On his actual birthday, we had his party with the usual gang over to grill out...couldn't have asked for more. He had a great time.

Here is the annual birthday shot from last year and this year!

Isaac had requested spefically a "green plane" on his birthday cake...so that was what he got! It didn't end up exactly as planned, but it wasn't b/c of lack of effort!

Unlike at her own birthday, Brooke actually really enjoyed Isaa'cs birthday cake!

Isaac, Andre and Gavin were lost hiking in the woods for much of the afternoon - Gavin happily took on the responsibility of gathering up all of the slugs that they found...YUCK!

And...Jackson joined the boys for some "work" with the yard tools! Who knew it could be so fun?!?!

"Here, Andrew, let me help you get that!" She's not shy.

Here's a few random shots of Brooke from the other day when we were playing ball with M-dog...
